The Summit offers up to 4 CE credits—one per session. You’ll earn credit for every session you attend live. Evaluations will be sent within 7 days to your email provided at registration for each session you attend. Evaluations must be completed to receive your continuing education certificate.

For CE credit, you must be logged in individually.

Social Work Hospice + Palliative Care Network (SWHPN), #1716, is approved as a provider for social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) www.aswb.org, through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Social Work Hospice + Palliative Care Network aka SWHPN maintains responsibility for the program. ASWB Approval Period: 7/18/2023 – 7/18/2026. Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval for continuing education credits.   1. Recognize how immigration status and laws affect the well-being of individuals, families, communities, and colleagues.

  3. Incorporate awareness of immigration-related barriers, institutional factors, and relevant policies into treatment and intervention planning for persons with serious illness and in supporting colleagues affected by immigration issues.

  1. Identify the values that guide health-care providers in addressing the concerns of patients who are members of marginalized populations

  2. Analyze the barriers to effective care of patients who are immigrants.

  3. Develop strategies to empower these patients.

Session 4 Learning Objectives

Title: Empowering Immigrant Communities             

Presented by Caitlin Bellis, JD

  1. Understand Fourth Amendment protections in homes, workplaces (or churches, schools, hospitals, etc.), in cars, and on the street.

  2. Understand Fifth Amendment protections and how invoking them may be more complicated in an era of expanded expedited removal.

  3. Understand expedited removal, mandatory detention, and recent policy & legal changes related to both.
