This case presentation will detail the emerging ethical constructs of maternalism, relational autonomy, and informed non-dissent and how they show significant promise in addressing the needs of providers, patients, and surrogates in complex medical decision-making.   • Describe the ethical construct of maternalism as it relates to complex medical decision-making.

  • Be able to apply maternalism to specific clinical case situations for future applications in different settings.
