LIVE CE Lunch & Learn May 2023: Pediatric Palliative Care Social Work Competencies

Presented by:
  • Danielle Jonas
  • Stacy Remke
  • Caitlin Scanlon
  • Arika Pateanude
While social workers are a well-established part of the pediatric palliative care team, the core competencies of a pediatric palliative care social worker have only recently been published. National experts in the field, guided by the pediatric special interest group of the Social Work Hospice and Palliative Network (SWHPN), worked together to articulate and define core competencies. As the field of pediatric palliative care (PPC) continues to grow and develop, these competencies will help to better delineate the specific skill base of social workers in PPC across settings.

After completing this webinar, attendees will be able to:
  • Describe findings from a recently published paper on the core competencies of pediatric palliative care social workers, including specialized skills and knowledge.
  • Discuss how to use these competencies to advocate for the social work role on interdisciplinary palliative care teams, hospice settings and other settings caring for children with serious illness.
  • Identify how this role can be used to optimize patient care by incorporating anti-racist practices into palliative care and hospice.
Date: Friday, May 19, 2023 | 12:00-1:00 pm Eastern | 9:00-10:00 am Pacific

Cost: $30 for SWHPN members | $45 for nonmembers
