APHSW Certification Program Information Session
Wednesday, June 09, 2021, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EST
Category: Events

The APHSW Certification is the first-ever testing and certification process specifically for hospice and palliative social workers. Unlike other certification programs, the APHSW-C designation requires verification of knowledge and competency-based on passing an exam specifically and scientifically constructed to reflect the essential knowledge and skills required for specialty practice. Now established, social workers practicing in this specialty can apply for certification. The next administration of the test will be held in September/October 2021. The application will open on July 1, 2021.

This program provides a process by which a social worker's qualifications (knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience) are verified for practice in hospice and palliative care. The certification may be preferred or required employment criteria or may be an expectation of accrediting bodies. Employers may expect new hires to work toward this specialty certification knowing that it validates their ability to practice in the field.

Most importantly, this specialty certification assures the public that a practitioner has the knowledge and skills to provide safe, high-quality care. While both nurses and physicians practicing in palliative and/or hospice care have had evidence-based competency certification programs for many years, this is the first such program for social workers in this field.

Join SWHPN for an information session hosting Vickie Leff, LCSW, APHSW-C, Executive Director of the APHSW Certification Program, on Wednesday, June 9 at 12:00 pm EST. Vickie will review important information about the APHSW-C designation, the Employer Partnership Program, and the next testing period. She will be available to answer your questions about the APSHW Certification Program, including:

  • Is the APHSW certification right for you?
  • Wondering about the benefits of becoming APHSW-Certified?
  • What are the requirements for becoming certified?

If you cannot attend on June 9th, a recorded version will be posted on the SWHPN and APHSW-C websites following the presentation.

Note: SWHPN is not the administrator of the APHSW certification program or exam, but provides educational tools and learning opportunities for those wishing to become certified.

Registration is free but required.
