10 Reasons to Get Your APHSW-C!

If you keep up with SWPHN news, you know we're excited about the launch of the first evidence-based certification for social workers in hospice and palliative care! The first exam for the Advanced Palliative Hospice Social Worker Certification (APHSW-C) will be held January 15-February 2019, and a second testing window will take place in July 2019.

You can find more information on the APHSW-C page. Here are ten reasons to consider getting certified:

  1. Increase awareness of our specialty within hospice and palliative care.
  2. Validates our expert skill set with evidence-based testing.
  3. Increases recognition by employers and colleagues.
  4. May lead to preferred employability over non-credentialed clinicians (140 candidates have already signed up to take the first exam!).
  5. Meets standards of accreditation bodies such as JCAHO.
  6. Improves patient/family care by validating essential skills.
  7. Assures the public that as an advance practitioner you have the knowledge and skills to provide excellent care.
  8. Helps set the stage for advocating advanced practice standards in our area of social work.
  9. Will pave the way for establishing billing opportunities and other funding streams.
  10. Assert the specialized skill set required for hospice and palliative social work practice.
