Social Workers As Change Agents: A Call to Advocacy
Phylicia L. Woods, JD, MSW
Social workers are needed to influence and transform policies to positively benefit people, organizations, communities, and society. Social workers can offer critical input into how key policies under national discussion are shaped. Monumental changes could unfold at all levels of government if the full weight of the social work profession lobbied and educated policy makers on the importance of incorporating both patient perspectives and evidence-based practices into policies and legislation. Now is the time to have social workers who are trusted voices more involved in policy making to create needed changes in cancer care delivery and the overall health care system.
