John F. Linder

John F. Linder is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Assistant Clinical Professor.  Currently he is a palliative care clinician, researcher and educator with the Department of Internal Medicine for UC Davis School of Medicine/UC Davis Health System.  In that capacity he teaches end-of-life care principles and practice to Residents, Housestaff, Family Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistants, clinic staff, medical students, graduate social work students, undergraduates and community members in several venues.  Since 1990, John has worked with Hospice patients and families, as a clinical social worker and then as Human Services Coordinator/ Supervisor for UC Davis Medical Center Home Care Program. 

In June of 2000, John was selected by the Project on Death in America for one of Cohort Two’s Social Work Leadership Development Awards.  He is an investigator on UCD’s project “Improving End-Of-Life Care for Selected Populations”, which is supported by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.   John is also finishing analysis and preparing manuscripts on a National Institute on Aging grant entitled “Reducing Trauma in End-Of-Life Care”; he led the research team.   He serves as a member of the Spiritual Leader and Minister Outreach Task Force, one of his region’s contributions to California’s Coalition for Compassionate Care, California’s RWJ statewide initiative.  He serves as a faculty member with the Sacramento AIDS Education and Training Center (AIDS E.T.C.).  John also serves as faculty for the West Coast Center for Palliative Education.  He was selected in October of 2000 as one of two recipients of the Landgraf Memorial Research Award.  John has a small private social work practice as well.
