David Cherin is Assistant Professor of Social Work at the University of Washington, School of Social Work in Seattle, Washington. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California and his B.A. and M.S.W. degrees from California State University, Long Beach. His research focuses on both health care delivery and service systems with a focus on chronically ill and terminal patients. He is published in a number of professional journals including Administration in Social Work, Drugs and Society and Home Health Care Services Quarterly. He is currently the Principal Investigator of a National Institute of Mental Health-University of Washington Prevention Center grant exploring interventions to reduce and prevent symptom distress that compromise quality of life for terminal patients. He is most recently the recipient of a Project Death in American-Soros Leadership Award. This award will focus on the development of an end-of-life knowledge center at the University of Washington School of Social Work. He teaches in the areas of policy, organizational practice and research. Prior to receiving his MSW and Ph.D., Dr. Cherin was a healthcare executive with a major investor owned hospital chain, American Medical International. Over a 19 year career he was actively engaged in hospital administration, mergers and acquisitions and clinical quality improvement programs. |
