The verdict is in: #SWHPN17 one of our best conferences yet!

Posted By Natalie Kovacic, Tuesday, March 21, 2017

Many thanks to the over 350 social work professionals that attended the 5th Annual General Assembly last month in Scottsdale, Arizona! We weren't quite sure what to expect when Sunday started with a huge downpour, but over 110 people soon arrived to participate in the amazing in-depth classes of the pre-conference program! Over the next two days, the sun did indeed come out, a welcomed change for those of us escaping winter for a few days.

Between the stellar plenary presentations, and wide range of breakout and poster sessions, everyone was able to find opportunities for learning and sharing with colleagues from around the country. Conversations took place in the courtyard at lunch, around the restaurant and fire pit, and online through our Facebook and Twitter followings. It’s fair to say we all came away having learned a tremendous amount, feeling new pride in hospice and palliative social work, and ready to return to work recharged and empowered to lead our teams and provide services to our patients!

Miss the 2017 General Assembly? See the 2017 SWHPN General Assembly program here.

As many of you know, a hospice and palliative social work certification project is underwayThe initial step is to develop a job analysis/role delineation survey to be completed by social workers practicing in this specialty field.

In order to develop this survey, existing job descriptions of positions for hospice and palliative social workers are needed. These descriptions will remain confidential and will be used only to develop the survey. If you have a job description you’d be willing to share, please email it to Barbara Head, Principal Investigator for the project, at

Thanks to all who attended the 2017 conference, one of our best yet! Stay tuned for announcements on #SWHPN18, March 2018 in Boston!
